Why did you choose your profession?

I’ve chosen my profession to be a resource for people to know how to react in an emergency for a loved one, friend or even a stranger. Our culture has taught us to look the other way and not bother with the risk of helping another person in fear of consequences, yet, it is very likely that an emergency will happen to us or someone around us.

Providing the knowledge to save another’s life has created very rewarding personal and professional growth for me, my family and HTH Safety Solutions!

Have you ever had an incident that changed you, and how did you approach it with your role?

My first experience with a member of my class going into cardiac arrest: it seemed surreal and staged to everyone else in the room, everything that I have been teaching was playing out in front of me, but in slow motion. It was a weird feeling to have all eyes on me, not in an entertaining and informative light, but in a desperation and “what do we do now” panic.

I didn’t think I could be more of an advocate for safety training until this day; being the one experiencing the panic tunnel vision slow motion emergency effect, I gained the knowledge of what emotions and thoughts run through a person’s mind in an emergency event – and that is invaluable to what I do.

What do you want everyone to know about safety?

Safety is everywhere: at work, home, in the community. It starts with awareness and confidence to speak up and not worry about the initial response of people who are unaware of the danger.

Awareness of your surroundings is key, don’t get caught up in the monotonous daily routine; be present in the moment everyday!

What is your superpower?

My superpower is the ability to conform to many audiences and make their learning experience memorable and effective. I have hosted classes for 50 Girl Scouts and the very next day 50 construction men!
