Why did you choose your profession?

I chose my profession to help others avoid the mistakes that I made in the past and to guide them through my experience and knowledge. Overall, I am excited to see people grow from one stage to the next progressive stage. Finally, it is rewarding to see individuals help others succeed by sharing their opportunities and victories.

What is the most important thing to do to be effective in your role?

I do not believe that there is one particular thing, but perhaps, there is a combination of a few small items that make me effective in my role. To name a few: one must be consistent, take action, follow up on priorities, show passion and measure your results.

Have you ever had an incident that changed you, and how did you approach it with your role?

One incident, in particular, changed the way I approach safety. In a previous Plant Manager role, I, unfortunately, had a team member lose a portion of his had while cleaning one of our machines. He lost the ability to fully use his right hand. I will never be able to imagine the pain that he felt and the challenges of learning to use a non-dominant hand. I would never want anyone else to experience the encounter of meeting a family at the hospital due to the result of an accident that could have been prevented.

What do you want everyone to know about safety?

Take the stance that all accidents are preventable. Work towards a zero-accident work environment. Never solely rely on your work-force to remember important safety steps around your equipment. Find ways to engineer solutions into the process to prevent the next accident from occurring. Always keep safety first!

What is your superpower?

My superpower is foresight. If you do not take safety seriously and embed it into your culture, “Bad Things are Going to Happen!”
